Southwest Atlanta could soon see a major transformation. The City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation are planning an 11-acre housing project at 0 Barge Road, just past 285 and near Greenbriar Mall. The project calls for around 100 single-family homes for sale — not for rent — with 1–3 bedrooms, a mix of attached and standalone styles, and 30% preserved as greenspace. Market-rate homes are projected between $270K–$375K, while affordable units could range from $200K–$270K for households earning up to 80% of the area median income. What makes this site unique is its proximity to the future Ben Hill MARTA Bus Rapid Transit station, expected to open in 2030. City leaders are calling it a historic step toward creating a transit-friendly, mixed-income community, as part of the goal to deliver 20,000 affordable units by 2029.
